Pain may sometimes be the reason why people change. Getting failed grades make us realize that we need to study. Debts prompt us of our inability to look for a source of income. A - Achieve your dreams. Obviate negative people, things & places. Eleanor Roosevelt once said, “the future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.”

B - Believe in your self, & in what you can do.

C - Consider things on every angle and aspect. Motivation comes from decision. To be confident to understand life, you should feel the sun from both sides.

D - Do not give up and don’t give in. Thomas Edison failed once, twice, more than thrice before he came up with his innovation & perfected the incandescent light bulb. Make motivation as your steering wheel.

E - Enjoy. Work as if you don’t need money. Dance as if nobody’s watching. Love as if you never cried. Learn as if you’ll live forever. Motivation takes place when people are happy.

F - Family and Friends - are life’s greatest ‘F’ treasures. Do not loose vision of them.

G - Give more than what is adequate. Where does motivation and self improvement take place at work? At home? At school? When you exert additional effort in doing things.

H - Hang on to your dreams. They may swing in there for a moment, but these little stars will be your driving force.

I - Ignore those who try to destroy you. Don’t let other people to get the best of you. Stay out of virulent people - the kind of friends who hates to hear about your success.

J - Just be yourself. The key to success is to be yourself. & the key to be an unsuccessful person is to try to please everyone.

K - Keep trying no matter how challenging life may seem. When a person is motivated, eventually he sees a harsh life eventually clearing out, paving the way to self improvement.

L - Learn to love your self. Now isn’t that easy?

Smoking Helps you Cope?

I’ve worked with a lot of people to quit smoking. In doing this, I have heard all kinds of reasons that it might be better if they kept smoking.

Smoking helps you think, relaxes you, de-stresses you, keeps you from getting upset at your family, tastes good with coffee, tastes really good after a meal. Basically, makes things “better” and makes you feel “better”.

You don’t believe these reasons. Not really. If you did, you wouldn’t also want to quit smoking. Right? Actually you CAN have it both ways. You can believe your reasons to smoke at the same time you don’t believe them. It is the difference between ‘knowing’ something and ‘feeling’ something.

A part of you MUST believe your reasons or you would have quit smoking by now. Now may be a good time to know there are no laws that say your reason to keep smoking has to make sense. They rarely do.

Almost all of the reasons you continue smoking can easily be proven wrong. Example: Maybe smoking helps you relax during work breaks because you get away and go outside to do it.

Most of the time you KNOW the reason doesn’t make sense. That doesn’t change the craving though, does it? Just one more one more reason in your list of reasons to quit. A list that doesn’t have much chance against the well-rooted cravings to smoke.

It’s basically about two things. The motivation that smoking will make you feel better and the feeling that you’re trying to feel better than. That is all.

If you’re hungry you feel like eating. If you’re tired, you feel like sleeping. If you feel bad (stressed, over-burdened, upset, alone, whatever…) you want to feel good. And, whatever your mind has learned feels good, you feel like doing.

This feeling to do something is what you probably call a craving. Many smokers have more than one type of craving going on. The ‘after you wake up’ craving might feel different than the ‘after a meal’ craving. The same principles apply.

So, what are you supposed to do? I can write several pages talking about this (and I have, look for them) But, it all comes down to modifying the feeling, motivation and belief involved.

First, feeling bad needs to be looked at and helped. If it’s stress, get it managed, if it’s a bad situation, do what you can to fix it or get help.

Second, you belief that smoking helps you feel good (it’s probably the innocent mistake that smoking equals being an adult, in control, strong, capable, etc…) In truth, a cigarette is a plant leaf and chemicals wrapped in paper. The good feeling you’re anticipating from smoking is created by your mind. YOU make yourself feel better when you smoke. So it only makes sense that you can make yourself feel good by doing something that is healthy. If, your mind believes it makes you feel good.

And that’s the trick. Quit smoking is mainly about modifying behavior. That’s why the success rate of medication and nicotine replacement alone is so poor. The only current exception is Chantix and even Pfizer, the makers of Chantix, recommend behavior modification along with the medication.

Electronic Cigarette Facts vs FDA’s Partial Disclosure

Things are really heating up with the latest news that The FDA is calling electronic cigarettes dangerous to your health. This undeserved blow comes shortly after the FDA slapped Chantix and Zyban, two drugs already approved by them as Nicotine Replacement Therapies, with a warning label indicating their high risk of suicidal thoughts, aggression, depression, and hostility.

Concerns are beginning to rise that perhaps the FDA is not conducting these tests on electronic cigarettes with the health of the general public in mind. Why is the FDA measuring the safety of these unapproved NRTs to regular health standards instead of contrasting it to the dangers posed by smoking traditional tobacco cigarettes?

Many manufacturers of the e-cigarette point to a study conducted by Health New Zealand. Their study did not test for Diethylene Glycol which was one of the chemicals the FDA has drawn attention to in their findings. This isn’t outside the realm of reason since it is not on any of the manufacturers ingredients lists, nor is it a known carcinogen found in traditional cigarettes. According to the MSDS for Diethylene Glycol, it is known to cause lesions and other forms of damage to the kidneys and liver.

In the case of inhalation, the only first aid recommended is removal from the source to fresh air. Toxicalogical information for Diethylene Glycol shows that it is not a known carcinogen, nor is it expected to be found as one in the future. In addition, the dose required to kill half of the sample of rats tested is 12.565 g/kg and 11.89 g/kg for rabbits. Assuming this can be extended to humans, an average adult male would have to ingest 855.925 g to receive a lethal dose.

Now what about the FDA’s comparison of Diethylene Glycol to the general public as the main ingredient in antifreeze? The EPA gives these statements on variations of antifreeze: “Some propylene glycol based antifreezes are less toxic to pets and humans, but antifreeze typically contains ethylene glycol as its active ingredient. Short-term toxicity is substantially lower in propylene glycol than that of ethylene glycol, especially in the case of human exposure.”

Primary ingredient aside, the prominent danger in anti-freeze actually stems from the heavy metals, specifically lead, that contaminate the suspension during use. Improperly disposing of used anti-freeze is a toxic hazard due to the absorbed heavy metal, not due to the active ingredients.

Although DG was found non-carcinogenic, there was a trace amount of tobacco specific nitrosamines (TSNAs, carcinogens) found in 1 of the 18 cartridges tested by the FDA. This was not a new finding, as the Health New Zealand report did test for TSNAs and stated clearly that these were to be expected with any solution that derives its nicotine from the tobacco plant, and of course the amount of TSNAs would increase with the amount of nicotine contained in the cartridge. On average, electronic cigarette cartridges contain 3.928Ng (also knows as parts per billion [ppb]).

The specific listing is as follows: Nitrosamines In Cartridges: 0mg ” 0.260 Ng (ppb), 6mg ” 3.068 Ng, 11mg ” 4.200 Ng, 16mg ” 8.183Ng. As indicated above, the cartridge with the highest nicotine volume contained the highest level of TSNAs. What is significant about this is that by comparison, the FDA approved NRT Nicorette Gum contains 8Ng (the same as that of the highest strength nicotine cartridge). Putting this number further in comparison, tobacco cigarettes contain approximately 1,230ppb TSNAs before burning, and moist snuff pulls in between 1,000 and 2,400ppb.

These findings are conveniently left out of the FDA’s statements to build their case for banning or regulating (read, making money from) their use and distribution.
