Do I think that bread machine mixes are useful? Yes, some of them are, but the snag with all bread machine mixes is that they place limitations on your choice and do not encourage your creative talents. That may sound odd, but think about it for a while. If you depend on bread machine mixes you can only make the bread for which you can buy a bread machine mix and you can only tip the bread machine mix into the bowl and switch on the bread making machine. You are definitely not likely to alter the bread machine mix for fear that it won’t work.

What is the alternative? Well, the old-fashioned cookbook, of course! Not just any old recipe book, but a special bread making machine cookbook. Bread making is a very simple, but rather tedious process. The ingredients are everyday, household items: water, flour, yeast, salt, sugar and oil. You already have those items in your kitchen with the possible exception of the yeast, which can be bought almost anywhere at minimal cost.

And you know what happens when you follow a recipe, don’t you? You’ve read the recipe through and you know you have everything in the kitchen, but when the recipe calls for, say, currants, you open the cupboard door and see that you don’t have any currants - they were sultanas! I once made a fantastic loaf by adding all the left-over vegetables from my Sunday lunch. It was lovely, but I could never quite reproduce it, because I did not write down the weights and measures. I could only remember that it had green beans, potatoes and sweet corn in it!

Bread machine mixes will never ever provide that, will they? And bread machine mixes are fairly expensive compared to the cost of 10 pounds. I always vary the ingredients too: honey instead of sugar, milk instead of water, olive oil or butter instead of just corn oil. Rock salt instead of sea salt or visa versa. You get the picture.

Bread machine mixes are limited and limiting. A bread making machine is a great way to use up leftovers. I have even put meat and fruit in my gourmet bread. My principle is: if it’ll go in a sandwich it’ll go in the dough - like an Indian stuffed paratha or stuffed naan bread.

It is genuinely a pretty straightforward process to apply preservative to your teak furniture. You want to make sure that you don’t put your first coat on unless the furniture has been sitting in the sun for a few weeks before hand. This assures that all of the wood grains are open. You should apply the first coat by spraying it liberally and then rubbing it in with a rag. Be sure that you apply two coats, and make sure that you apply it everywhere. If you are applying the stain on any surface that you care about, then you need to make sure that you put something under your wood as you don’t want to cause stain damage to anything you care about. In ensuing years, you will only need to apply the stain once a year after cleaning the wood with a mild detergent and water.

This is pretty much all that you have to do in order to protect your teak furniture. It doesn’t hurt to wash your furniture every once in a while with a mild soap and water to remove any normal soiling. If you spill anything on the sealant, like coffee,wine, or foods that stain, you need to make sure that you get it off immediately as these things can penetrate through the sealant and leave stains on your furniture. If you want to avoid this, you can put a teak clear coat on the surfaces that are in danger, like tabletops as this will improve resistance to stains.

Teakwood is naturally pretty impervious to water because of the oil that is contained naturally inside of it. Because of this, things like varnish, water sealers, and products with an oil base aren’t recommended for this type of furnishings. By putting polyurethane or varnish products on it you can be assured that they will peel off and chip. Applying these to your teak furnishings can turn out to be a real nightmare in the future.

It isn’t a good idea to put oil on your teak furniture either, as it has plenty of its own, and it will just end up creating a mold problem on your piece of furnishings. This again causes more work for you as you will need to wash the furnishings with bleach and soap and then sand the surface.

If you like to entertain people outdoors or spend any time outdoors just relaxing, then teak outdoor furniture is an excellent investment for you. It brings quality and class to your yard and outdoor setting. Understanding the proper care of teak furniture is a vital part of helping to maintain a lifetime investment.

There are various types of acne, named according to how or why the acne arose. Some of the forms of acne are: acne conglobata (chronic boils); acne fulminans (an extreme form of conglobata); acne cosmetica (caused by cosmetics); acne keloidalis nuchae (from shaving); acne medicamentosa (caused by starting or stopping a medication); acne rosacea (redness on the face); baby acne; hormonal acne; cloracne and the common variety, acne vulgaris (also known as ‘puberty spots’). In this article, we will take a closer look at acne vulgaris.

Acne vulgaris may be described as: ‘an inflammatory disease of the skin, caused by changes in the pilosebaceous units (skin structures consisting of a hair follicle and its associated sebaceous gland). Acne lesions are commonly referred to as pimples, spots or zits’ (from Wikipedia).

Acne is most often found in white Western teens, although it does occur in every country in the world, so there could be a genetic predisposition to it. It is possible that it may be an abnormal reaction to fairly average levels of testosterone. For most afflicted, outbreaks of acne last only until adulthood, probably only a few years or at the most ten. For other people, however, it may be a life-long problem. It most often affects the face, upper-chest, upper-arms and back. However, an occasional spot does not constitute acne.

Acne vulgaris appears in various ways, which include: whiteheads, caused by pores which are totally blocked, trapping sebum (oil), bacteria, and dead skin cells, resulting in a white spot on the surface; blackheads, resulting from pores which are only partially blocked, allowing some of the trapped sebum, bacteria, and dead skin cells to slowly drain to the surface (the black colour is not a result of dirt, but is a reaction of the skin’s own pigment, called melanin, with the oxygen in the air); papules, which are inflamed, red, tender bumps with no head and pustules, which are similar to whiteheads, but are inflamed, and appear as red circles with a white or yellow centre.

Whiteheads do not usually last long; blackheads do last a long time and pustules are what people call spots. Severe acne vulgaris is characterized by nodules and cysts. A ‘nodule’ is a much larger and more painful kind of pustule and can sometimes last for months. Nodules are large, hard bumps under the skin’s surface. They often result in scarring and should never be squeezed, which could cause them to last for months longer still.

A ‘cyst’ can look like a nodule, but it is pus-filled, and has been defined as having a diameter of at least 5mm and, again, can leave scars and cause pain. Squeezing an acne cyst may cause a deeper infection and more painful inflammation which will last very much longer than if it had been left alone. Dermatologists have ways of reducing swelling and preventing scarring with both nodules and cysts. It is not true that acne sufferers are not meticulous about washing.

Indeed, it is a little-known fact that, over washing can exacerbate acne. There are many, many fake ‘cures’ in the shops and many, many old wives’ tales. However, any good dermatologist would advise you that there is no sure-fire remedy for acne and that the patient has to follow a strict regimen of cleansing until the acne just ‘goes away’ on its own.
