The Remodeled Garage Heater

If you have converted your garage into a workshop or home office, you are sure to want heating in one form or another. This is because most garages are not built to the same standards of insulation as the main domestic building. However, that need not present a problem. You may even have the contrary problem during the summer, as garages often do not have windows, or at least large ones, either.

Exposure to air could be another issue that you will have to cope with, but we will come to that later. If you have a plentiful supply of dead wood, you could set up a pot-bellied stove, but you will have to vent the flue outside. This is very easily done, since most garage walls are only one brick or block thick. However, if they do not burn correctly, there can be a smell, which you may find unpleasant.

Or you could use a paraffin/kerosene heater. They are cheap to buy and are readily portable. These heaters do not necessarily have to have a flue. They are easy to turn on as many of them employ an electric starter. Some also have a thermostat to regulate the temperature. They can be dangerous if there are children around as they can be tipped over. However, for most people, the glitch would be the smell given off.

You could use an electric hot air heater. They are quite cheap to buy, are easily portable and do not require a flue, but they can create a very dry atmosphere and are expensive to run.

One of the most common choices these days is a gas heater. There are many different kinds of gas heater, but most run on butane or propane. Most of the models are fairly reasonably priced. The main benefit of a gas heater is that they give consistent heat, are fairly cheap to run and are portable. Or at least many of them are.

You could have one built in, but it is hardly worth it, unless you are using gas that needs to be vented. Propane gas heaters also come with or without thermostatic controls. A propane heater could also double as a patio or deck heater on chilly evenings.

These gas heaters come in two forms: vented and unvented. The unvented models are the portable ones. They use the air from the room and the vented models have a flue that vents straight out of the garage. The slight disadvantage of the unvented model is that you have to keep the room airy at all times.

Therefore, if you choose a portable, unvented propane heater, you must leave a window partly open in order to allow the exchange of air and these heaters can be used as patio or deck heaters during the spring and autumn/fall. However, the vented gas heaters are fixed and have a flue attached, so they cannot be taken outside. Furthermore, if you decide on a vented model, you would be better off getting a professional in to install it for you by the book.

The Little Known Preventive Perks With Cardio

We all know that aerobics is a great, low impact exercise that benefits our health. What a lot don’t know is that it has also been linked with reducing the chances of developing heart disease and certain cancers.

Make the effort to put aside 30 minutes a day to participate in this exercise. Even at a moderate pace, the chance of colon cancer is greatly reduced by between 30 and 40 percent.

As well as colon cancer, women who exercise for 30 minutes a day are protecting themselves from developing cancer of the breast by a significant 30%. A lot of women don’t realise these additional health benefits of aerobics.

As if that wasn’t enough, more recent studies show that taking up aerobics can also greatly assist in treating a cancer that is already present.

One of the main side effects of cancer treatment is the fatigue it causes. Doing aerobic activity for 30 minutes, 5 days a week at a vigorous rate will greatly relieve that washed out feeling and actually give you energy.

As well as fatigue, cancer sufferers find themselves suffering from depression and extreme anxiety, which is no surprise to be honest. Once again, vigorous exercise can relieve these feelings thanks to the endorphins being released.

Cardiovascular disease is one of our biggest killers, so it makes sense that we indulge in an exercise regime that is specifically designed to keep our heart healthy. Even if you don’t like exercising, taking part in aerobic workouts regularly is a small price to pay if it keeps your heart healthy.

I could bang on about the health benefits you get from aerobic for hours, there is literally that many of them. Start of slowly and then build up gradually, but ensure it is regular, daily is best. It may seem like a chore at first, but stick with it and in no time you’ll be feeling great.

Joy, Peace and Happiness

This day in age, people are turning to religion in droves. Christianity, Islam, Hinduism and Buddhism has embedded it’s ideology in the hearts and minds of millions globally. While all these religions deserve respect and tolerance, few in the west have a grasp on the complicated concept of Buddhism.

The end all and be all of online encyclopedias, Wikipedia grabs the first slot on a Google search for the term Buddhism and the breakdown reads like this: “Buddhism is a religion and a philosophy encompassing a variety of traditions, beliefs and practices, largely based on teachings attributed to Siddhartha Gautama, commonly known as the Buddha (Pali/Sanskrit “the awakened one”). The Buddha lived and taught in the northeastern Indian subcontinent sometime between the 6th and 4th centuries BCE.

He is recognized by adherents as an awakened teacher who shared his insights to help sentient beings end suffering, achieve nirvana, and escape what is seen as a cycle of suffering and rebirth. Buddhism is traditionally conceived as a path of liberation attained through insight into the ultimate nature of reality. Two major branches of Buddhism are recognized: Theravada (”The School of the Elders”) and Mahayana (”The Great Vehicle”). Theravada, the oldest surviving branch, has a widespread following in Sri Lanka and Southeast Asia, and Mahayana is found throughout East Asia and includes the traditions of Pure Land, Zen, Nichiren Buddhism, Tibetan Buddhism, Shingon, Tendai and Shinnyo-en. In some classifications, a third branch, Vajrayana, is recognized, although many see this as an offshoot of the Mahayana. While Buddhism remains most popular within Asia, both branches are now found throughout the world.

Various sources put the number of Buddhists in the world at between 230 million and 500 million.” After living abroad in Asia for several years I have found that Buddhist cultures are more tolerant because the focus is on the ’self’ and the meditation on the calming of the mind, concentrating on controlled breathing and the idea that meditation to bring one closer to peace is central to discovering one’s self.

If you have the opportunity to investigate the practice of Buddhism, I would highly recommend it. I’m not saying to take up the path and convert to a religion but the calming affect that is central to this religions concept will bring a peaceful serenity to your life that you may find useful. All in all respect and tolerance for all religious perspectives is something that people are beginning to make a conscious effort to practice and understanding ideas from various religions can teach us an appreciation that can bring us all closer together.

Anxiety and Sleeplessness

Are you desperate to get a good night’s sleep but finding it impossible? Do you find yourself tossing and turning all night and when you do drift off, you wake up soon afterwards again? Is this something you’ve been experience for a few months, or do you experience these bouts every once in a while? Perhaps you’ve been having these bouts for year already but because they tend to come and go, you’ve always just battle your way through them. Well, if any of this sounds familiar, then I’m afraid that anxiety may very well be the cause of the insomnia.

How is this possible? For one, if you have worries over personal matters, finances or your job which are interfering with getting a good night’s sleep, the diagnosis may well be anxiety induced. Do not take this for a simple problem. The need for a good night’s sleep and your inability to achieve may cause problems that you will have forever.

Imagine not having a decent night’s sleep in over two weeks. Would you think you would be effective on the job? More than likely, such problems could completely undermine your standing at work. Your home life could also be seriously affected as well. Excess tension and irritability can undermine your relationships with friends and family. That is why it is important to deal with the situation with the obvious intention of reversing its impact.

Although it’s a well known fact that anxiety can often lead to sleepless nights, many people still fail to understand how and why this happens. The reason why anxiety is often accompanied by insomnia is largely due to hyperactivity and restlessness. When you experience disturbing anxiety related thoughts together mental uneasiness, it can become near impossible for you to calm down, and this of course results in insomnia.

There are many ways one can reduce anxiety so as to eliminate sleeplessness. Without a doubt, one of the most important things to do is not ingest anything that will contribute to anxiety. For example, it is critically important to avoid caffeine or other stimulants if you are having trouble sleeping. This is because they are known to heighten and contribute to anxiety. Hence, they are best avoided.

Getting regular exercise is also very important. Anxiety is interconnected with excess and built up tension. Through exercising, you can reduce such tension by utilizing it in your athletic performance. In short, you can burn up anxiety in the same way you can burn calories.

Another way of reducing anxiety is by controlling your breathing. This will help to reduce the tension and anxiety you are feeling. When you breath deeply it slows down the heart and calms the body. This is beneficial in helping to regain sleep patterns that are normal.

Anxiety is a serious problem by itself. When it is compounded by issues related to sleeplessness it becomes even more traumatic. Thankfully, there are ways to alleviate both anxiety and sleepless. So, there is hope that you can be in control of your life once again.

Secrets to Mental Well Being

They say that the secret of life is to be happy. Many people believe that this is more important than anything else. What you accomplish, how you live, and anything else mean virtually nothing if you’re not happy with it.

Having said that, it’s critical that you’re happy with your lifestyle, no matter how you’re living right now. I’d like to give you three tips that I believe will be useful in maintaining your happiness.

First of all, exercise is an automatic catalyst in this regard. Few people realize this since it often seems like work, but the benefits of exercise couldn’t be more clear.

Any exercise causes natural feelings of happiness, thanks to something known as endorphins. These are produced when your legs and the rest of your body are physically stimulated, and exercise and sports will naturally induce the production of endorphins.

You should also find activities that you really enjoy, as any hobbies will have a positive effect on your spirits. Not only will you enjoy your time spent on these hobbies, but they’ll serve as a distraction to your otherwise negative feelings.

I’ve seen people completely depressed who temporarily have a lift in their spirits whenever they’re occupied with their hobbies. They use these things as an escape, temporarily removing themselves from the world and lifestyles that ordinarily make them upset.

What you eat is just as important as anything else, and your diet can definitely play a role in your overall mental and emotional demeanor. Eating foods loaded with sugars and starches gives you a temporary lift in spirits, followed by a much stronger crash. These should be avoided.

Instead, you should opt for healthy and natural foods. Fruits and vegetables are the best source of vitamins and minerals that your body may be lacking, and they’ll go a very long way toward keeping your natural happiness levels high.

Photovoltaic Solar And Electromagnetic Induction Energy

The planet we are living on never stops in providing renewable sources of energy good enough to sustain our daily needs. And when it comes to renewable powers, some places are able to utilize this power as an alternative to mechanical electricity.

Alternative energy can be derived from the sun, wind, and the earth itself. All we have to do is to develop, generate, and utilize them from original form into another form wherein every one will benefit, especially now that most of the fuel that comes from fossil have been depleted and ruined.

Considering what was done the last century to turn fossil fuels into crude, the process of generating energy from alternative fuels is not as difficult. Then after it’s turned into crude, they refine into different types of gas, diesel, and petroleum blends. The entire process has taken a lot of work, and cost millions of dollars!

It may be unfamiliar to all of us but this kind of transitioning energy is what the world needs today in order to preserve and protect the world from the worsening condition of global warming.

Solar electricity is a great renewable fuel, but very expensive. The biggest cost comes from buying all the needed equipment to transfer over to solar energy. The initial equipment alone will be a lot more expensive than our present power we generate mechanically. We need to learn to accept the price as we transition to the alternative energy. These changes are not to be expected to take place overnight. Although we do need to accept the changes, and the price it will cost to change.

Michael Faraday discovered how to generate electricity back in the 1800’s and it’s very today, as it was back then. With seven different ways to change energy into electrical energy the most common is electromagnetic induction. Electromagnetic induction happens when you transform kinetic energy into electricity. With some training, education, and skill we can put the basics of electricity to work for us.

Not photovoltaic technology is moving a lot quicker than it had been in the past. The biggest problem found with photovoltaic is the solar panel is much higher than the mechanically generated power. We are now growing by leaping up 40 percent, Germany, Japan, California, are in the lead. We hope that within then next few years the market will turn around, and solar power will be a lot more feasible than petroleum.

Learning new methods or techniques to develop this energy into renewable fuels is possible. Students of this generation are being taught in school to be aware of the depleting condition of the mother earth because of the global warming. Perhaps some of them would be trained to help in the development of new methods and equipments to be used for transitioning the energy from the sun, the wind, and the earth into alternative energy that are not harmful to the environment. This will make a great improvement for the planet we all live in.

Relationship: The Secret To Happiness

What is the reason for our remaining alive? For what have we come here? Day after day we are being asked about the sense and purpose of our lives. And many of us keep on searching for answers. Will we be able to achieve happiness? That is also a question that forces us every day to find out its answer. What happens if the answer to those queries is quite uncomplicated? What if it is all about ONE thing? Bonding. The secret of happiness is explained perfectly in the stimulating voice of Masami Sato in the excerpt of her book, ONE.

What are we searching for?

There are many things we do in our life.

But have we ever thought about why we do what we do? What are we really looking for?

The world is a confluence of millions of people of all continents, races, religions, and ideologies, doing different things. They look different and also act in different ways. All of us have different interests and each have a different viewpoint. We converse differently using different languages. We have different emotions and desires.

Nevertheless, if there was ONE thing that ALL of us are searching for, what could that be?

While I journeyed all over the world, I asked people a seemingly straightforward question, “What would you like to achieve in your life? What do you really want?”

At first, it seemed everyone was looking for different things as they randomly said, “Good job”, “My own house”, “A nice partner”, “A loving family”, “A soul mate”, “More money”, “Wealth”. “Freedom”, “Peace of mind”, “A life purpose” There were many more answers.

I actually noticed that some of these things are temporal desires and some are more permanent desires. Temporal desire means we want it because we do not have it yet or we don’t think we have it yet. On the other hand, permanent desire is not about attaining things we do not have. It is about the ‘feeling’ we seek so this does not end no matter what we get or achieve at each moment of our life.

If one could just remove all earthly desires from our list and look at only permanent desires, it would be obvious that we just want to continue feeling positive sensations like excitement, happiness, inspiration, motivation, munificence, affection, joy etc. - put in other words, we want to continue being happy.

Happiness

Contentment is a state of emotion that all of us are yearning to be in. Each of us may define it differently. We may also value it differently. Each of us may be familiar with different levels of intensity of contentment. Still we definitely have something in common when contentment comes to us. And when we realize this secret about contentment, we hold the key to greater contentment, and to make those around us know the same feelings as well.

This life, that we live, is a mystery. All of us like it in our own different ways. We may also dislike it in different ways. We may wonder about it. We may cherish it. Or we may just accept it in an offhand manner. But what is the ultimate purpose of this life? What if the mystery of our existence is at hand? What if its revelation actually brings us happiness and fulfilment when we come face to face with it?

What if the secret of our life purpose, and of happiness, is as simple as this:

It is all about relationship.

Connection is everything

Everything is about connecting. Everything is part of everything else. If we look at our own life, it says it all. Then we will start to see the real purpose of our life.

Why do we do something, ANYTHING at all, in life as human beings?

It is just because we want to connect to others. We make friends to build a relationship. We get married to establish a relationship in a deeper and more permanent manner. We create a family to further strengthen that relationship. We go out to meet more people to connect with them, not only to get benefits out of those relationships, but also to become more connected to the world.

We buy good clothes or go to a hairdressing saloon for a better relationship with our aesthetical sense and to our own physical appearance. We eat all types of food to feel more connected to the sense of taste and flavour. We eat out to feel the relationship to the people we dine with. We get mobile phones and computers to weave relationships with others and the world. We read magazines and newspapers to remain in touch with whatever is going on and what others are doing and experiencing. We educate ourselves to keep in touch with what others know and value.

Every thing that we do is to satisfy the need of keeping alive relationships. It is our relationship to our own body that makes it imperative that we eat and sleep. Because of our relationship to our senses, we are asked to do things to satisfy the demands that body makes. If we ignore the demands that body makes, we have to bear the resultant aches and distress. And above our mundane needs, we yearn for another relationship - a relationship to our very existence - a relationship to our purpose. And without that connection, it is vacant. Just like the blankness so many of us feel when we have no relationship even to ourselves. That is just not the way our lives are supposed to be lived.

Relationship is powerful, and yet it’s fragile and tender..

When we can’t feel the sense of connection in a relationship, we go for separation, divorce, arguments, judgment and resentment. It never feels good to feel disconnected. But we could even feel in love with someone one day and feel totally remote and resentful toward that same person the next day. The feeling can change just by a flick of a finger. And it could be your finger or theirs!

When the bonds are not there

When the relationship is not there, we start seeing problems. We start seeing differences and hindrances. We start sitting upon judgement of others and disapproving them. We exaggerate, concentrate upon, and give energy to such things that we see as problems. Under such a scenario, these problems might turn inwards and inflict pain and disapproval on ourselves. We cannot be fully happy when we have no associations with anything.

Relationship: the Secret to Happiness

What if we are looking at the whole idea from the other end? When we do it, we realize this simple reality: we cannot feel miserable when the bonds are strong. It is just not possible!

Try to feel unhappy when we’re feeling connected to the people around us and laughing and sharing wholeheartedly together. Even when we have so-called ‘problems’ in life, we can still laugh together and feel happy and positive when we are feeling connected. At the same time, it is very difficult to enjoy anything if we’re not feeling connected.

Relationship: Our Life .

Connection is the core of everything. That’s what life is. Connection.

Everything is a unified whole of smaller units. Everything combines together to form a bigger unit; the way our bodies are a fusion of smaller entities like atoms, molecules, cells and organs.

Our actions and choices also express the need for connection. We are designed to constantly seek ways to connect to each other and to a greater purpose.

Bonding and Religion

Some of us opt to be part of various religions to feel better bonded. This bonding that they seek could be to God. It may be to the people with the same convictions. When we share a similar credence, there is a greater feeling of being bound to the people in that group. More awarding and handing over takes place among people who are feeling strong bonds with each other.

Connection and Business

Many people begin an enterprise to feel better bonded to themselves by being in control of their fate. But often in the entrepreneurial world, we end up being more and more segregated especially when we start viewing other ventures as contenders, staff as instruments and customers as a money flow. But the basic point of why we got into the venture was to feel the power of that bonding. So, why do we need to fashion that disconnection at all? May be in the perfect world, all business ventures worked differently, but hand in hand.

Connection and Wars

Some of us even create arguments or wars to experience some sense of ‘victory’ or supposedly a greater sense of security and significance. But ironically, this rebounds. The moment we ‘win’ the battle, we are actually more disconnected from others. We now need more security to protect ourselves from being attacked by others. We somehow end up being more insecure and afraid. We can’t laugh at this because it actually happens to almost every one of us in different ways.

It may be the differences of opinion we have with people around us. It may be the wrong conclusions we reach at when we decide another person is wrong. When we want to be the only person to triumph, it will not be a victory in the true sense of the word - there would be no bonding. We can only rejoice when we succeed in unison. Then we feel the strong bond.

Despite the varied ways in which our needs are expressed, everything we do is to satisfy the yearning we have to feel and have a strong relationship.

The full sense of a bonding is realized only through our heart. We can bond with anybody when we are truly concerned about them and feeling that bond with them. If we are conscious of this, giving life to that required state of mind is really easy, uncomplicated and a pleasure. Then we would actually feel more delight and joy.

Life is like a play. We act things and feel things in a play but actually, the aim of the play is to derive pleasure out of it. It is not about acting out things, doing things. When the curtain falls finally, the winners are the ones who have experienced joy by acting. Not the ones who received more applause in the end. The effects and upshots of a play in which we acted do not affect our real life. But if we lost all our life to act in a play just because we wanted to be the best actor there, would it make us the best actor of the play?

It is easy to comprehend this when compared to acting in a play, but we often fail to understand it while enacting the play of life. We do not remember that life is also a play.

Even if we don’t know when this game actually started and when it would end, we know that it somehow started in the past and it will end someday. When we close the lid of the game box eventually one day, can we simply say, “Wow, it was so much fun. Let’s play again!”

In this game called life, the aim of the game is to ‘connect’. We can keep connecting until we all become one. It is the only way to continuously feel connected to our purpose-sense of happiness and joy. We cannot feel disconnected to anything or deny and judge even one thing if we are to achieve the state of total connection.

Life is as simple as that. There is just ONE secret.

And the secret is to establish a relationship.

To turn into ONE

To find pleasure.
